Capsule Pak ECO™ Energy Savings Case Study
Background
Refrigerated Solutions Group (RSG) in cooperation with Budderfly, one of the country’s fastest-growing providers of comprehensive energy management solutions, launched an energy efficiency pilot project at the Woodbridge, Connecticut Subway restaurant location. Using RSG’s Capsule Pak ECO™ self-contained refrigeration systems for indoor walk-in coolers and freezers, findings show that Capsule Pak ECO can save quick service restaurants and other foodservice operations an average of 50% on their walk-in refrigeration unit’s energy bills, and more when combined with Budderfly’s energy efficiency as a service (EEaaS) solutions.
System Details
Budderfly replaced legacy Capsule Pak systems in the walk-in cooler and freezer (one CPB050 cooler model and one CPF060 freezer model) with a Capsule Pak ECO CPB050 model in the walk-in cooler and CBF075 in the walk-in freezer. Legacy RSG Capsule Pak systems containing R404a refrigerant, were replaced with new Capsule Pak ECO systems containing R290 refrigerant.
Results
As seen in the chart below, replacement of legacy Capsule Pak systems with Capsule Pak ECO models significantly reduced energy usage.
SYSTEM LOCATION | LEGACY CAPSULE PAK SYSTEM ENERGY USAGE (kwhr/day) | CAPSULE PAK ECO SYSTEM ENERGY USAGE (kwhr/day) | IMPROVEMENT |
---|---|---|---|
Cooler | 5.6 | 2.5 | -56% |
Freezer | 11.3 | 5.6 | -51% |
